Supplies you'll need to crochet Tentacool

General supplies:

With Amigurumi you guage doesn’t matter much. Using smaller hook and yarn will make you finished Tentacool smaller, and bigger hook and yarn will make it bigger. Just make sure that your yarn and hook fits together and makes a tight fabric so the stuffing won’t show through!

With the recommended yarn below, your piece will be about 10 cm/4 inches tall (including tentacles).

I reccomend Hobbii Rainbow cotton 8/4. This yarn is a 100% cotton and very nice to work with! With this yarn, I use a 2,5 mm hook (or a B-1 or C-2 should work too!). If Rainbow cotton is sold out, I can also recommend Friends cotton from Hobbii as a direct substitute.

ch 2 and turn your work. Work the following in BLO. The loop toward the center of the piece is therefore not used.

Rnd 20: (3hdc, hdc-inc) x 4, ch 2, turn (20 hdc in total)

Rnd 21: (hdc, hdc-inc) x 10 (30 hdc in total)

You now have an edge on your piece. This forms the back “cape” of Tentacool. Continue working by making 3 sc in the edge of your hdc (pictured below). This will move you to the 8 unused stitches of rnd 19.

The next part is worked in FLO. Again this leaves the loops towards the center of the piece unused.

In the 8 free stitches of rnd 19 do the following. Multiple stitches are in 1 stitch, this is symbolized by ( ). Everything inside one ( ) is worked in 1 stitch.

(ss, ch1), (hdc-inc), (sc), (hdc, dc, ch 1), (dc, hdc), (sc), (hdc-inc, ch 1), (ss)

Make 3sc along the edge of the hdc again to get a neater result. Then FO and weave in the end.

Assembly of your crochet Tentacool

Sew the bottom piece to the body by using the remaining loops from rnd 19 of the body. One loop fits with one stitch. Remember to stuff the piece before finishing the sewing.

Attach the big red spots on the side of the head.

Now place the eyes and nose piece. The eyes go on each side of the hdc/dc part of the nose piece. The straight edge of the nosepiece goes upwards. Start by sewing the eyes to the body in the correct position and layer the nose piece above the eyes afterwards and attach it. Embroider long pupils in black.

Attach the small spot in the center above the nose and eyes.

Lastly attach the tentacles to the bottom piece.

And now your crochet Tentacool is finished!
