Supplies you'll need to crochet Spheal
General supplies:
- Crochet hook 2,5 and 3,5 mm (or hooks that fit with your yarn!). I always use clover amour hooks for my projects!
- Sewing needle
- Stuffing
- Stitch marker
With Amigurumi you guage doesn’t matter much. Using smaller hook and yarn will make you finished Piece smaller, and bigger hook and yarn will make him bigger. Just make sure that your yarn and hook fits together and makes a tight fabric so the stuffing won’t show through!
About the yarn
This pattern is made with 2 different yarns with different thinkness. The main plush is made with Hobbi rainbow 8/8 yarn and the details (white spots and eyes) are made with Hobbii Rainbow 8/4 yarn. The yarn for the body is essentially 2 x the thickness of the yarn for the details. If you want to substitute yarns, use 2 threads held together for the body, fins and mouth, and just a single thread for the details.
Spheal with the recommended yarn will be a cute and small little friend. About 5-6 cm or 1,5 inches.
I reccomend Hobbii Rainbow cotton 8/4 for details and Hobbii Rainbow 8/8 for the main piece. This yarn is a 100% cotton and very nice to work with! With this yarn, I use a 3,5 and a 2,5 mm hook. If Rainbow cotton is sold out, I can also recommend Friends cotton from Hobbii as a direct substitute.
- 1 x blue or pink (normal/shiny Spheal)
- 1 x beige for the belly
- A bit of black and white for details (spots and eyes – if you use safety eyes, only white is needed)

Only the body piece is changed. In the photo below the blue Spheal (right) is made in the “baby”-version and the pink Spheal (left) is in the normal version. Both are made with the same yarn.

Assembly of your crochet Spheal
Assembly of this piece is simple! Sew the different parts to the ball of the body trying to make it symmetrical.
Attach the tail on top of the colorchange in the body to hide the colorchange, then attach the mouth on the opposite side of the body, just where the colors meet so you get a smooth transition.
Attach eyes, ears and the fins on either side followed by the 3 spots. For each side you have 2 big spots and a small spot. They should be arranged in a triangular shape with the smallest one closest to the fin.
Lastly embroider white fangs below the mouth and highlights in the eyes if you haven’t done that before sewing.
